Netafim is finalizing the installation of irrigation systems for the Olympic projects in Athens for a total worth of over 1 million Euro.
The company, who has been rewarded with 24 irrigation tenders in the Athens 2004 Olympic Games and Netafim’s exclusive representative in Greece landscape activities, Gialypsos Ltd., will install over 2 million meters of sub-surface drip irrigation extensions, irrigation control systems and sophisticated filtration systems.
Aharon Peles, CEO of Netafim Hellas: During the previous year Netafim Hellas had a 40% increase in sales, out of which 50% resulted from landscape.
Netafim, a leading company in the field of advanced irrigation technologies for agriculture and sophisticated solutions for landscape, has announced that it has been rewarded with 24 tenders in the field of irrigation as part of the preparations for the Athens Olympic Games in August 2004.
Netafim has supplied the Olympic Games with advanced irrigation solutions through peripheral equipment, automatic control systems, valves, connectors, advanced automatic irrigation systems etc. who have all been manufactured in Netafim’s factories in Israel. Among the different projects that Netafim is responsible for are the Olympic village, the entrance path to the Olympic stadium, beach volleyball site, the area of the competitive sailing, the Olympic swimming pool, baseball field, hockey court area, weight lifting stadium, the grounds of the light train from Athens’ suburbs to the town center and more. Netafim is the only Israeli company to have been rewarded with such a great number of Olympic Games projects in Athens excluding the security field.

Aharon Peles, Netafim Hellas CEO, has announced that during the previous year there has been an increase of 40% in sales, out of which more than 50% resulted from landscape. Peles says that the growth in sales is a result of an increase in agricultural and zonal projects in field crops, greenhouses and water treatment in Greece.
Peles added that the Greek authorities have already invested more than 22 million Euros in irrigation and landscape projects as part of the environmental development for the Olympic games while Netafim has supplied more than 2 million meters of drip irrigation extensions, control and filtration systems.
Another innovation supplied by Netafim is sub surface drip irrigation systems, which allow for usage of effluent thus enabling major water savings. The drippers were especially adapted to carry wastewater and were painted purple, the international color representing pipes carrying recycled effluent. Furthermore, the sub surface irrigation minimizes the danger of vandalism during the games and afterwards, and provides an esthetic value for such a well-reviewed event as the Olympics.
